Privacy Policy

BrandNameCheckr (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the website brandnamecheckr.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it.

By using BrandNameCheckr, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please stop using the service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Brand name searches

When you search for a brand name, that search term is sent to our backend server to perform availability checks across third-party platforms. We do not store your search queries in any database. Each check is stateless — once results are returned, the name is not retained on our servers.

However, the brand name you search forms part of the URL /check/[name], which is recorded by Vercel Analytics as part of standard page view data, retained subject to Vercel's own retention policy. Our backend on Render may also retain request logs for a short period for operational purposes, subject to Render's retention policy. Google Search Console only captures queries that arrive via Google Search, not searches made directly on this site.

1.2 Vercel Analytics & Speed Insights

We use Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights, both provided by Vercel Inc., to understand how visitors use BrandNameCheckr and to monitor page performance.

These services may collect:

  • Pages visited and full URLs (including /check/[name] paths, which contain the brand name you searched)
  • Referrer URL (the page you came from)
  • Browser type and version, and operating system
  • Country-level location derived from IP address
  • Device type (desktop, mobile, or tablet)
  • Page load times and Core Web Vitals performance metrics

1.3 Umami Analytics

We use Umami Analytics, provided by Umami Software Inc., to understand how visitors use BrandNameCheckr. Umami is cookieless and does not collect personally identifiable information. It collects anonymised data including pages visited, referrer URL, browser type, operating system, device type, and country-level location. No cookies are set and no personal data leaves your browser. For full details, see Umami's Privacy Policy at https://umami.is/privacy.

1.4 Render (Backend Hosting)

Our backend API is hosted on Render, provided by Render Services Inc. When you search for a brand name, your request is processed by our backend running on Render's infrastructure. For full details, see Render's Privacy Policy.

1.5 Security and Rate Limiting

To protect the Service from abuse and automated traffic, our backend derives a temporary identifier from your IP address using a one-way SHA-256 hash with a salt. Your raw IP address is never stored. This hashed identifier is used solely for rate limiting and bot detection, is never linked to any personal profile or search history, is never shared with third parties, and is automatically purged after 60 minutes of inactivity.

1.6 Google Search Console

We use Google Search Console to monitor how BrandNameCheckr pages appear in Google Search results. Google Search Console gives us access to aggregated, anonymised data including:

  • Search queries that led users to our site (shown in aggregate, not linked to individuals)
  • Impression and click-through counts per page
  • Page indexing status and any crawl errors

Google Search Console does not provide us with individually identifiable user data. This service is operated by Google LLC under their own privacy policy. See Google's Privacy Policy for details.

1.7 What we do NOT automatically collect

We do not collect, store, or process:

  • Names, email addresses, or any contact information
  • Account credentials (there is no account or login system)
  • Payment information of any kind
  • Persistent cookies or cross-site tracking identifiers
  • Any data knowingly from children under 13

2. How We Use Information

We process the limited data described above on the basis of our legitimate interests in operating, maintaining, and improving the Service. Specifically, this data is used solely to:

  • Operate and improve the BrandNameCheckr service
  • Monitor website performance and uptime
  • Understand aggregate usage patterns (e.g. most visited pages, device types)
  • Diagnose technical errors
  • Improve our search engine visibility

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. We display no advertisements.

3. Affiliate Links

BrandNameCheckr participates in affiliate programs. Some links on our results pages (such as domain registration links to Namecheap) are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a small commission if you click and make a purchase. This is at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not influence our availability results or recommendations in any way.

4. Third-Party Platform Availability Checks

When you search a brand name, our backend server makes outbound requests to third-party platforms (GitHub, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit, npm, Product Hunt, domain registries, and others) on your behalf. These requests originate from our servers — not your browser — and contain only the name being searched.

These third-party platforms may log our server's IP address and request metadata as part of their normal operations. We have no control over how those platforms handle that data. Their respective privacy policies apply.

5. Cookies

BrandNameCheckr does not use first-party cookies. We use Vercel Analytics and Umami Analytics to understand site usage — both are cookieless by design. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or any persistent client-side storage for analytics or tracking purposes. Third-party websites you navigate to from our results pages may set their own cookies, which are outside our control.

6. Data Retention

We do not maintain a user database or persist search queries on our own servers, so there is no personal data held directly by us to delete on request.

However, as described in Section 1.1, brand name search terms form part of URLs that may appear in Vercel Analytics page view data and Render backend access logs. These are retained subject to each provider's own retention policies — we do not control how long they store this data. For details, refer to Vercel's Privacy Policy and Render's Privacy Policy.

7. International Users

BrandNameCheckr is a global service. Our frontend is hosted via Vercel and our backend via Render, both of which operate across multiple regions worldwide. By using this service, you acknowledge that data may be processed in countries outside your own jurisdiction.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, we have designed BrandNameCheckr with privacy by default: we use cookieless analytics, collect no personal identifiers, maintain no search history on our own servers, and process only the minimum data necessary to operate the Service. We process this data on the basis of legitimate interests. If you have questions about your data rights under GDPR or UK GDPR, please contact us.

8. Children's Privacy

BrandNameCheckr is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has used this service and you have concerns, please contact us.

9. Links to Third-Party Sites

Our results pages include links to external websites including trademark databases (USPTO, WIPO, UK IPO), domain registrars, and social platforms. Once you leave BrandNameCheckr, this Privacy Policy no longer applies. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any external sites you visit.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of BrandNameCheckr after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
